Little-known Brilliancies

March 23 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm

Chess history is cruel, with few players other than those with outstanding tournament accomplishments or theoretical contributions able to leave anything more than mere footnotes.

However, if we delve deeply enough into these footnotes, often we can find some hidden gems, obscure perhaps, but no less sparkling or brilliant than their more well-known counterparts. Your host, CM Luke Lau, pays tribute to brilliancies from some relatively unknown players, who in their finest moments managed to display some absolutely spectacular tactics and conceptions. Magnificent king hunts, mind-boggling cross pins, extravagant queen sacrifices, dazzling pawn promotion tactics, and picturesque checkmates are only some of the things we will see, with yet more unusual and entertaining themes in store.

You’re unlikely to know many (if any!) of the names or games before this lecture, but you’ll definitely remember many afterwards.
