A delectable puzzle for us last time, courtesy of Oxford student Hou Yifan vs. Jackson, Isle of Man 2016.
Our very own Mr Dipenderble was straight in there with the correct solution, so congratulations to him!
To this week’s puzzle, and it is a tough cookie.
White to move, answers in the comments please…
Is it
Bxg4+, Kd6 2. Bxe5+, Kxe5 3. Qg3+, Ke4 4. Kd2 and white wins whatever black plays threat of queen g2
On 2. Bxe5, if Kc5 instead 3. Qc2#
1. Bg4+, Kd6
2. Qg3 …
and I think there’s basically no defence against it.
Bg6 blocks your threat?
Sorry Bf6 or even Qf6
I see the win as 1. Bg4+ Kd6 2.Bxe5+ Kxe5 3. Qb2+ Kd6 4. Qh2 Kc5 5. Qc7 and mate
What if 3. Ke4 instead?
4. Qd4# does the job
That’ll do it 🙂 well done
